The human body is a complex system of vitally important component parts. If one part is not functioning as well, it can have an effect on our overall health. Whilst we spend time on a daily basis preening our external appearance, how often do you take the time to consider how your body is looking on the inside?
So, do you ever think about looking after your internal environment in the same way you look after the external?
The way the human body carries out all of the many, many necessary tasks to keep us alive, is truly amazing. However, over the past century it is our diet and lifestyle which has changed dramatically and which can, in a lot of instances, hinder the work our bodies are trying to do. This is because the modern diet and lifestyle can introduce a lot of toxins into the body.
Toxins are substances that are foreign to the body; they serve no purpose in the body and so do not belong there. Toxins require removal from the body as they can hamper the functioning of internal organs which can have a detrimental effect on health. It is the job of the liver to remove these toxins.
Toxins come in many forms and can enter the body through a number of mechanisms:
* Through the foods we eat. Artificial additives, preservatives and colourings are found in many foods. A residue of pesticides, fertilisers and herbicides may be found on many farmed products. Non-organic meats may have been subjected to artificial substances such as growth hormones. Foods such as cakes, confectionary and fizzy drinks are high in refined sugars. * Through the drinks we consume. Two toxins commonly found in beverages are alcohol and caffeine. * Through the air we breathe. Substances that can enter the body through the air we breathe are exhaust fumes, gases, pollen, moulds and mites. * Through the medications we take. This includes items bought over the counter such as paracetamol and aspirin, and prescribed medications such as the contraceptive pill.
All of these substances are toxic in the body and need to go to the liver in order to be removed. Due to their prevalence in modern living this can put a lot of pressure on the liver and as such, high levels can accumulate in the body. A wide range of symptoms can manifest when this happens, such as headaches, mood swings, and aches and pains; to name just a few. This is where the body really could benefit from undergoing a safe detox plan designed to fully support the liver.
